The walls are going up, slowly but surely
So, things are starting to slowly take shape. Eben stood the first wall last week and this is it!
Things are progressing slowly, at least for Eben's taste, but he is working until dark most nights and on the weekends. Our friend, Pete, came over on Saturday morning to lend a hand. With a birthday part to attend on Sunday, this is what we came away from the weekend with.
Not bad, I think...Eben's dad, Tel, is coming up soon to lend a hand.

The first of the framing, a weekend's work!
The garage slab was pored about a week ago now. Here is Don cutting in the lines. It's done now and covered in plastic so that it cures slower. I guess that helps prevent cracking?
The wood has been arriving. Eben has brought some home, and we've had some deliveries. Elia made a brave climb! She was the first to walk on what will be the floor.
And she's always willing to lend a hand. She's a big fan of the air hose. We just have to keep the poor dogs out of her way. They are not big fans of her with the air hose.
Here's Eben on the garage, laying out the greenboard around the stemwalls.

Here's our new back deck, straight out of a shanty town. The floor will be the floor of the back addition at some point in time. Right now it's nice just to have a deck for the kids and dogs again and to think that soon, this space will be inside!

Foundation is in, Framing has begun...
The concrete for the foundation was p0red last Tuesday. It was pretty exciting.
We were around to watch some of the beginning parts. The pumper truck set up and the concrete trucks began arriving.
Auntie Em was a big help with the kiddos. Eben really wished he could have been there to supervise, but did a great job of relaying final instructions over the phone to make sure things went off well. It's a good thing he does this for a job...it all fell into place.
The guys were putting up some last minute formwork before the pumping began.
Priming the pump.
A little breakfast entertainment! She's got the best seat in the house.
And the pumping began out back.
We headed off to the lake soon after they started and when we returned home, the foundation was complete.
The next day they stripped the formwork off. Here's Eben and Zeb making sure everything looks all right.
Queen of the mountain with her attendants, Echo & Kenai. Elia has been loving the ever changing dirt features of the construction.
And the backfilling of the garage slab in complete and waiting for gravel. I'm learning so much here!
Elia lended a hand on Saturday. Eben made her her own set of bags and filled them with tools. After she got frustrated shovelling with her plastic shovel, he pulled out his avalanche shovel for her, which was just the right size. She wasn't too big of a fan of shovelling dirt around though.
She would rather play with tools.
All tuckered out after a hard day of work!
Here's the garage with the gravel layed down. The slab will be pored tomorrow, Monday.
Zeb gives all the progress a big grin. He loves bouncing in the doorways and checking out all the action.
Eben pounded the first nails on Saturday night. He's working to frame in the back addition floor so that we can have a deck of sorts out to the back yard. He got a lot done while the kids and I went to the Rodeo on Sunday. As I type, he is finishing installing the floor joists. Hooray, it has really begun.
All you who want to come to a barn raising weekend of framing...just drop us a line!

Forming the Foundation
The formwork is almost complete. It should be done for our inspection this afternoon. Don, the concrete contractor, and Ernesto, the laborer, have been hard at work since last Tuesday. They have been putting in 10+ hour days and even worked most of the weekend. We are scheduled to pour tomorrow! Everyone has been helping out. Eben jumped in to work this weekend and Elia was right there to help.
She carried her little toolbox outside. Daddy told her to put on her saftey goggles and she said, "But you don't have yours on!"
She couldn't wait to crawl in the trenches with Daddy to help out.
The saw was a little loud for her!
Zeb was supervising the work from the front doorway...following in his Dad's footsteps, a little superintendent!
